California Travel Log | Ghirardelli Square

This is the ninth post in my series covering my recent escapades and adventures in California. For more, check out Leslie’s California Travel Log.

Another big deal in San Francisco is Ghirardelli Square, a dining area that contains more than just an international chocolatier. But all we had in mind for after dinner at Boudin was – that’s right – a big fat bowl of ice cream! So to the chocolate shop we went, in the pretty twinkling lights and street lamps along the brick walled square. Ghirardelli Square was kind of like the Rivermarket in Kansas City, or the Haymarket in Lincoln, Nebraska if you’re reading from one of my homelands. Imagine a historic, brick dining and retail area with a smattering of classy, fun shops.

The workers at Ghirardelli all wore the best little chef hats and two of the boys behind the counter were goofing off with smiles spread clear across their faces. There was much jollity to be had, sugar-induced is my guess. In the slideshow below, you can see their vat-o-chocolate, our ice cream sundaes, and views of the square from the street and from our evening boat tour around the bay.

Talk about a sweet ending to our night in San Francisco. What a lovely city! My next post will be in a different place entirely: Yosemite National Park. Put on your sunblock, your bugspray, and get ready to do some hiking and see some waterfalls in one of the nation’s most famous places!

Your little traveler bee,

Leslie
